Thokoza Mjo of Beyond the Lemonade stand

While studying towards a finance degree Thokoza Mjo took up the opportunity to serve in the youth ministry at her church.

“Through that experience, I became aware of the need to start a tutoring and career guidance programme, targeting boys that had lived or worked on the streets and were now living in shelters around Pretoria,” she says.

That’s when Thokoza started Beyond the Lemonade Stand, which she ran on Saturdays.

After graduating, Thokoza worked as an Investment Analyst and for three years she juggled work and managing a programme that was steadily gaining momentum.

“So, after three years of working in the private sector, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life, I quit my job.”

Today she runs Beyond The Lemonade Stand which is in the business of changing mindsets.  They work with high school learners from under-resourced communities, supporting them to run practical projects that they previously thought impossible to achieve.
